FIRES.
(Per United Puf.ss Association.) AUCKLAND. March 15. A fire at Howick destroyed Crawford's stables. The groom, Harry Cunningham, aged 63, was burned to death. The fire, was discovered about 11 last night, when it had a strong lioldjn the loft, where Cunningham slept. No effort could be made to save him. Twenty horses stabled below tho loft were sot out. Kit four 'buses. brakes, harness, and fodder, of the total value of _ £10CO, were destroyed. There were no insurances. The adioining convent, had a narrow escape, the w'alls being very badly scorched.
DAXNEVIRKE, March' 15. A fire occurred in the bulk department of Wylip and Co.'s store this morning, and though the main building was saved, tho stock was hopelessly damaged by water and fimoko. Insurances: i! 509 on tho building and £1600 on the stock. The is above £1500.
