LATE ADVERTISEMENTS. 'TJIHE TRAMWAYS ACT, 1891." NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that it is tho intention of the BAY TOWN BOARD to apply to the Governor for an Order authorising the CONSTRUCTION ot an EXTENSION ot the ANDERSON'S BAY SECTION ot the PENINSULA COUNTY TRAMWAYS to Samuel's Store, Tho following is a description of the proposed works:—A single line of tramway commencing at a, point on tho Anderson's Bay road 55 chains from the intersection of Anderson's Bay road and the Main Portobello road, continuing thenco in a north-easterly direction along Anderson's Bay road, and deviating by a four-chain radius curve into the Portobello Main road, running thence in a south-easterly direction along the Portobello Main road, terminating at a point opposite Samuel's Store, a', distance', of IGY chains frofn the intersection of the Anderson's Bay road with the Portobello Mail) road, with sucli turnouts and sidings as may be required. The centre line ot the track will bo located 5 feet' on the nortli-east side of the centre line "of the road. The poles shall he located along the line of the kerbing on eich side of tho road, antl flush with, or 'within Bix inches of, the outer face thereof. The .power for working the aforesaid line of tramways will be electricity applied, and used upon, and according' to the overhead trolley system, with uninsulated return. Permanent Way—The permanent way will be laid on sleepers, with ballast formation. The rails will be of hard steel, weighing not less than 931b to the lineal yard, in lengths of 40ft, oxccpt where necessary to put in shorter lengths. Tho rails will bo spiked to the sleepers with strong dogs; sleepers will be of Australian hardwood, at least 7ft 6in x Sin x 4Jin. Under tho sleepers there will he a layer of at least Gin of 2|in gauge metal. The top-dressing will consist of 2in metal blinded with screenings, and dressed unci rolled to a smooth finish. Track drains will be provided where necessary to drain the track. Tho rails will be bonded at every joint, and cross-bonded rail to rail ever)' other length of rail. Feeder Cables.—Tho feeders will be carried on insulators supported on brackets attached to (he span poles, and will consist of hnrddrawn copper cable, insulated and braided, Tho positions of the line or lines of rails are to be such that there shall not be less than 18in between passing cars, nor iess than ]sin between cars and any fixed object, these distances to be measured between vertical lines clear of all projections between rail level and 17ft above. The gauge of the tramway is to be 4ft SMn. The rails ore to be so laid that the heads of the samo shall nowhere be less than 4ft from the line of the kerbing of the footpath. The rails used for the said lino are to be of steel, and they aro to be laid upon and secured to sleepers or concrete, or in such other manner as may bo approved in writing by tho engineer to bo appointed by the Minister of Public Works to inspect the tramway during construction. Tho rails aro to bo laid and maintained so that tho uppermost surface thereof shall be approximately 011 a level with the surfaco of tho street or road, according to the levels, as fixed by tho surveyor, and so that at all times ordinary vehicles can cross tho samo with easo and safety. Provided that tho Local Authority may from timo to time alter the levels or grades of any rond or street, and if any level or grado is altered so as to affect tho tramway tho Local Authority is to alter and relay tho tramway so that the same shall be approximately oil a level with the surfaco of the street or road so altered, the cost thereof to be paid by the Local Authority. The tramway is to he worked by eljctric power, and for that purpose the Local Authority is to have power to construct, erect, affix, maintain, and use boilers, engines, dynamos, poles, posts, conductors, wires, tubes, mains, plates, boxes, and chambers, and other machinery, apparatus, appliances, and things necessary or convenient for the constructing, maintaining, and working of tho tramway and tho lighting of tho cars, enginehouses, power-houses, stables, workshops, sheds, and other buildings relating to the tramway, but so that 110 part of tho works authorised by the Order is to be placed upon any road or street in the said district other than the permanent way of the tramway, and tho connections, poles, and other apparatus for conveying power or light. Tho Local Authority may, upon the completion of any section of tho tramway, commence and thereafter continuo to run cars thereon by means of electric power, notwithstanding that the whole of the tramway is not completed. Provided, further, that after the completion of tho construction of the tramway motive power other than electricity may bo used by the Local Authority in any case where by reason of any accident or other contingency electricity is not available. The system of working to be adopted on tho said tramway is to bo electricity, applied and used upon and accord.ing to the overhead trolley Bystem, with uninsulated return or any modification thereof that may be considered advisablo or expedient by the Local Authority, and for this purpose the conductor may bo suspended from span wires across the streets at such a height that the lowest point of any conductor wire placcd overhead is not to bo loss than 18ft above the level of the crown of the street or road. Whcro telograph or telephone wires aro carried along on one side of any street occupicd by tho tramway, tho overhead feeder wires of tho tramway system are to be carried along on tho other side of the street, and at all points whcro it shall be necessary for tho conductor or feeder wires of the tramway system to bo carried across the telegraph or telephone wires, they are to be carried across and under tho same at right angles, if possible; and telegraph and telephone conductors aro to be carefully insulated over, a sufficient length to prevent any contact in' the event of accident to either line; and proper guard wires arc to bo provided to prevent the telegraph or telephone wires from getting into contact with tho conductor or feeder wires of the tramway system. PLANS AND CROSS SECTIONS. The plans and cross sections showing the nature of the works proposed to be undertaken, together with a description thereof, are deposited for public inspection ill the office of tho Local Authority, situate at the residence of P. T. Anderson, the Clerk thereof, Anderson's Bay road. DELEGATION. It is intended that tho authority conferred by the Order shall be delegated by tho Local Authority to tho Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of tho City of Dunedin (hereinafter ealieil "The City Corporation"), and the following is a general description of the terms end conditions subject to which such delegation is to be made—that is to say: (1) Term of delegation to be 42 years, with a right of renewal for a furthor term of 21 years. (2) Rent to bo £1 per annum. (3) The City Corporation to keep tho roadway between the rails and for 18in on each outer side of tho rail in good and substantial repair. (4) The City Corporation is to be entitled during tho said term to chargo and receive for tho use of the said tramways the tolls and charges to be fixed by the Order. (5) Tho Local Authority is to have power on tho determination of tho term to purchase at a valuation the said line of . tramway and such of the stations, lands, and buildings, engines, machinery, - cars, and plant of every kind and description within tho district belonging thereto, or used therewith, as shall be reasonably necessary for the working of the said lino of tramway; (0) Tho Local Authority is not itself to construct, or to'grant the right to construct, tramways along the route hereinbefore mentioned, or. along any other route in tho district crossing the tramways of the City Corporation and competing therewith.
