RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sis,—l think the work of this association is to be commended to the citizens, it being a real live institution and worthy of support. One has only to look back a very short way to see tho indifferent way members of boards and councils used to do their work, and tho difference now under a healthy criticism of the actions of members and councillors, to see tho good work of 'such an association. I as a citizen looked askance at this body for_ a long time, but carefully watched its. actions, and was oonvinced that it was a useful and needed institution, and an going to join as a member. Tho association is to be congratulated on taking an interest in the Harbour Board, and it must have been very satisfactory indeed to members to bavo two out of three nominees returned to the board. I feel sure had a report not been circu-; lated in St. Kilda that it was Mr James Smaill, of Tomahawk, who was standing for election, Mr James Small would liavo been returned by a good majority over Mr Gourley. It is liigb time the Harbour Board endowments were made to yield their proper revenue. Wishing the association every success in its endeavours to arouse ratepayers and householders to a sense of their duty,—l arc, etc., Ratbmer.
