CASUALTIES.
(Per United Press Association.) OHBIBTCHDRCH. December 17. A somewhat serious accident occurred in Montreal street this morning. A man named Charles E. St. John. >*1 Kaiapoi, was riding a motor cycle at. a speed estimated at. 20 milos per hour, when he dashed into the engine of the steam tram, travelling along Moorhousc avenue, which intersects Montreal street at right angles. Attached to the motor cycle was a side carriage, iii which a Miss L. Turnbull, of Sjdenham, was sitting. The motor cycle and carriagewere pushed along the rails by the tram engine for about ten yards, during which St. John and Miss Turnbull received severe injuries. Tho former is very much cut and bruised. The latter had a lejj broken, iii addition to being severely shaken and bruised. Both wero removed to tho hospital in a eemi-congoidu* condition. At the iiiqucst hold yesterday touching tho sudden death of Sultan Mahomet, an Indian hawker, aged 69 years, who was on a visit from Dunodin, a verdict was returned that death was due to apoplexy.
