Entrance was obtained from the rear of the building through .the window. The safe was opened with keys, and the contents rifled. Two cash boxes were opened and the contents of tho upper tray removed, but, curiously, tho notes and gold wore left undisturbed. A quantity of rolled gold watches, plate, and other jewellery of considerable value—probably over £100 in value—were removed. At tho Supremo Court William Bradley petitioned for divorce from his wife, Lies Juno Bradley, on tho ground of lie.r alleged adultery with Robert Wibby. His Honor granted a decree nisi, to be made absolute after throe months, with costs. A young man named Richard Harris pleaded guilty in tho Police Court to having stolen from tho steamer Waikaro a quantity of jewellery and money of tho value of £10, tho property of Georgo King, ihkl a watch and discharges, valued at 10s, owned by Kupcrt 'rialmon. The accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, WELLINGTON, December 16. Bernard Alfred GifTord, who pleaded Riiilty to a largo number of charges of breaking and entering and theft, camo up for sentence this morning. The Chief Justice in sentoMcine him to six years' imprisonment said that tho offences, if taken separately, would make accused liable to 160 years' imprisonment. Samuel Pearce, convicted of forgery, received a sontenco of six months' imprisonment. 1 WESTPORT. December 16. Tho Wpstport Municipal Abattoirs, the first on the West Coast, have been opened. Speaking at tho official ceremony, Mr Pcnkes, assistant chief veterinarian, said that. Mr Gilruth, chief vcterinarK>n, wns sorry he could not bo present. Ho had sent* in his resignation to the Government on a point of principle. The speaker was with him. and whatever the result, would be with him still. The wfirk of extending the main haulatto ropo across Chasm Creek bridge into the new area of the Seddonville State Colliery will be commenced immediately. Coal output from the State mine will therefore cease, until tho first week in January.
