A SENTENCE REMITTED.
Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright. MELBOURNE, November 23. (Received. Nov. 23, at 9.15 a.m.) The Federal Government, has received- a communication from the King, who directs that the remainder of tho sentence against Jas. Iviely, a soldier of the 53rd Foot, be remitted. Kiely was sentenced at ft courtmartial in 1866 to death for trca.soll. The sentence was commuted to imprisonment for life, and lie was exiled to West Australia, where he is still under detention, though liberated on license in 1878. Several of his fellow exiles escaped to America, and others were pardoned.
