THE BURNSIDE HYDRAULIC LIME AND CEMENT COMPANY (LIMITED).

ISSUE OF 3000 RESERVE SHARES OF . ' - £3 EACH. "With this issue we publish the prospeclna of the Bnrnside Hydraulic Limo andi Cement Conipany (Limited). The directors are in- . viting subscription for 3000 reserve shares of £5 each. This additional capital is wanted in order to erect the necessary machinery to nia-ko Portland cement. It may be wiihin the recollection of many of our readers that about 12 or 18 meiiths ago there was quite a mild form of excitement in business circles in Dmiedin at the discovery of a deposit of marl at Bnrneide . It being well known that marl is an excellent article for the manufacture of cement, a. company was formed to thoroughly test its value for cementmiking purposes, a-iid also to ascertain the extent of Hie deposit. It is now gratifying 10 be able to record that, after most exhaustive teats, the mr.rl has been proved to bo most suitable for ceuient-malrin?, andl the deposit has also hten proved to be practically inexhaustible. The directors of tho company, baving satisfied themselves on these two most important points, have gone into tho question of the erection of a, plant for themanufacture of cement. They have consulted Messrs Martin, Earle, and Co., of Rochester, England (0110 of the largest cement firms in tho world), and'tliey advise tho .erection of a modern rotary (dry) kiln plant. ' It is estimated that for the expenditure v of about £12,000 the company will have a plant capable of turning out 150 tons cement per ( week. The directors have gone carefully into the question of manufacture, and they estimate that, at the outside cost, they can manufacture and deliver the cement in Dnnedin for 35s per ton. As the market price for cement is from 70s to 75.1 per ton it will be leadily seen that there are very haiuteonie profits to be nw.de, The directors estimate that with only a sale of 50 tons per week they should return shareholders 10 per cent, per annum 011 their shares.
