DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. Saturday morning's market found values in tho majority of stocks firm' in tone. Thero wos not, however, any very great inclination for business, and three sales in mining stocks and one in investments constituted the mornjug's turnover. The first stock touched on ' was Golden Bed, values showing another decided rise, and a sale transpiring at 9s, with additional buyers at tho close at the same figure, and sellers ».t 9» Gd. The return, for the past week of 7Goz shows a still further improvement. and as a result a dividend should soon he fortneoming. Golden Runs were a shade easier, and a parcel changed hands at 395, but for additional parcels placed on tho market at 39s 9d there was no inquiry Masferfous (ex a dividend of 4i.) were sought after at 42s 6d without, result, while in Mystery Flat quotes were eomewhat wide. A holder was prepared to accept- 31s for Otagos—-a price Is higher than that v.-liioli buyers were offering on Thursday. In investment- stocks Bank cf New Zealands are at present receiving some prominence, and a parcel of them changed hands on Saturday at £6 15s. A few days back buyers were only offering fG, and the present rise in values is indeed Hidden. Upon this the recent tale by tender of 13,783 forfeited shares has donbtle?fl some bearing. A number oi those tendering did so at less than £G Is, somo as low as £1 Is, and as no allotine l were made to these, a number of tenderers were of course disappointed. The probability is that a. number of these disappointed oneii aro determined to liavo their shares, even if it is necessary to pay a very much higher figuro, this, perhaps accounting for the inquiries at £6 14s and thereabouts. Again, specula-tors who were successful in securing shares at the recent sale—and a number of purchases and offers were made , with a. view to speculation—will naturally give every -assistance in putting up the prices, with a view, of course, to disposing ot an enhanced figure. It is hardly likely that expectations of a r:=e in the rate of bank interest are responsible tor the hardening in this stock, for wctc it defintely decided to raise the interest, one would be inclined to think that, as would b; the proper thm«, mention of it would have been made prior to the disposing of these 13,753 forfeited shares. Sales made ou Saturday were:—Golden Bed, 9s; Golden Run, 395; Island Block, 7s; Bank of New Zealand, £6 los.

THE WEST COAST. (Fkou Ode Own Correspondent.) GREYMOUTH, October 22. A representative gathering of Brunncr residents was held ou Thursday evening for the purpose ot considering the. advisability of forming a syndicate to take up the lease of 100 acres of ground known »s Curtis Victory, on the Paparo'a Ranges, from-which yields were obtained while the reef lasted. Various speakers dwelt on the richness of the reef known as the Bonanza, and later on as Curtis, and the rich specimens found in the various creeks. In the past a good deal of prospecting has been done, but all present were perfectly satisfied that the tunnels were too high up the hill, and that the only way to prove the ground was to be put in a low tunnel. It was resolved that a prospecting • association be formed for the purpose of driving a low level tunnel, and that" a canvass of the district he made for the purpose of enrolling those willing to contribute 5s per week for-that purpose. Already 30 residents have agreed to pay ft weekly sum of 5s each 'towards it.

Tiio directors of {he Undaunted Gold Mining Company hive declared a dividend ol 5s per share. * Bignell's Jio'Town dredge broke' her elevator on Tuesday, necessitating-a stoppage of operations for several days, so that ropairs might be effects,■ consequently there was no wash-up on Saturday. The Pactolus No. 2 dredge got 121'07. sdwt for 135 hours, and No. 1 dredge 520z lodwt. Both dredges are "working an excellent face, No. 2 having a fair run on the main lead. Junioson's Reward dredge got 570z, the result of hut four days' operations, on a fine sample of wash.

As predicted, the New Trafalgar dredge operated on an improving sample of iara=li all week, getting the good yield of 430z, with every prospect of oil improvement. The No Town Creek dredge obtained 430z. There is no material alteration to report. The Three-mile Greeiiatone dredge washed up 230z, with an improving wash, and not so rough.

The Slab Hut Creek dreilge got ISoz for 120 hours' work. Tho dredge struck a. patch of worked ground. The width of tho face was consequently decreased, but in a fortnight's time the dredge will have got past this, and' the face will be again widened.

NOTES FliOM REETON, (Froii Oor Ow.\' Coiinr.sroxnixT.) REEFTON, October 01. The Big River Company's mine manager reports for t the week:—"The face at No. 8 level has not been extended this week owing to the men being absent, Au uprise on the east block of stone cut in this level has been started, and 7ft has been risen. There is 18in of stone in the back of the rise, making back towards a. stope carrying water, which is a good indication of more stone making higher up. In the intermediate level stopes 17ft of stoDing has been, done on the reef, which is rather broken and mullocky. Fifty-two tons of stone have been raised for the week, making Si total of 316 tons to date."

Tho Alpine Company's lniro manager reports:—"We have taken out IGO tons, and stopped stoping. Four men aro cross-cutting in the rise. Two men havo been raising over No. 7 12ft for the week, making the totai distance 21ft. The track is good.
