THE HARRIERS AND RAILWAY GATES.
TO Tnji HDITOE. 'Sin,—My attention has been drawn to a ■ loi?al appearing-in yaw paper.of.tho 14th irist., which stated tb/it two gates opening oti to.tho Otago Cemral railway were left oc-en by tho barriers at thoir championship. This probably refers to tlio Cros3-eountry CJiamDion3hip held oVi August 26. Imay sajr that the gates referred to could not ■ ha.vo been left open by tho runners in this race, as tJio trail took them underneath tlie railway briclgo at tho Silvepstrcani. TJie. railway gates were at least a.quarter of a milo awav. Tlie harriers fully .acpnociate the- kindness of farmors in aßonb'-i? them ;tb run over their property, mid eh* memliers are invariably instructed to take every .aro of gates and fences'—l am, etc, ; HsjißY Mackintosh, ."Hob, Sec, jOtago, Csntro N,? : A.iA,A.
