COTLSISPONDXNCE. li. iiitchflll wrote again urging attention being paid to New street and stating that if any councillors resided in the street named the loati and footpath wild have beon put 111 a proper state long before now.—Received. ~Tlio General Manager of the Assets Realisation Board,' Wellington, in reply to a letter from the-council, quoted £30 cash for lot 1, Musselburgh, if the offer were promptly dealt with.—Resolved that £30 bo offered, the amount asked being considered far too high. The land in question is 17 poles in area, at file junction of Royal crescent and Andorson's Bay road. Tho Secretary of the ncwly-constituted Anderson's Bay Town Board wrote asking wuat tho average requirements of tho St. Kilda Borough wero for level streets and streets on so that tho board might formulate a standard on- uniform lines.—Referred to tho town, clerk to give tlio information required, E.;(}. Allen, M.H.Ii., wrote stating that'it was very doubtful whether tho Fire Brigade Bill .would bo proceeded with this session, but if it . were there would be • considerable alterations made in it,'such as would probably- meet • the - wishes of tho council.— Received.. • . - James-A. Brown applied for a crossing to be laid in front of his property in Scott street, as there was Gin of water lying there during recent rain's,—Work to be done if owner provide'pipes, - •' H: Lyders wrote staling that the main drain was blocked fronting lub houses, and that water, was lodging in Jackson street, and had no' apparent outlet; consequently be could not' get material to his new houses in course of: erection.—Referred to tho Works Committee. . D. C. Cameron wrote' thanking the council for use of- the hall for. -Band of Hope meet-' ings.-r-Rccoived. Callah Gfllkway wrote informing the council "that alttratiofis. necessaiy had. been ordered re £7000 loan; and that the next stop to be taken wits to call a meeUng of ratepayers to consider the proposal, on a day not more than 10. days-after, tho 22nd September. Tho '.Works.. Committee recommended that a.4ft footpath ho formed from Normanby load to enttance of,'.pumping..station; that four loads'" of screenings be put on footpath in New street; that footpath in Prince Edward rond, from Mr Cameron's to Morcau strcot, be attonded to at crossing for Mr Tain, Mam avenue, and Mr Strachan, East avenue, tho same to be blinded with quarry dustAdopted. '.. Tho .finance, General, and Reserves Committee rccominendcd that accounts, be passed for .payment amounting to £170 12s lid. The district fund account was shown to bo overdrawn £1207 Is 9'd. l Ro Culling Park, the committee recommended that tenders be called for removal of soil from that portion of the park ift east side of Bowling Club ground and placed wlicro directed'on football ground; cost of work to bo paid, out of rent of ground. Adopted.
The Inspector reported that tho daymen have been employed during tho past fortnight spreading rotten roek at tram lino, Main road; letting off water during flood;' cutting ditch in Victoria road; .putting in crossings, IVshardson, Market, Young, Normanby, and Logan streets, Main road, East avenue; forming track in Chapman street; covering ashes in Market reserve; lifting and putting in drain from Evans's across Richardson street; assisting plumber at water, bursts; .carting and spreading rotten rock on Ifoin road at Mundenls, Bay View road, and at angle, Cock crescent.—Approved... , ; . FLOOD WATERS. Cr Burk called attention to tho slowness with which the flood waters ..recently discharged themselves, and moved that the Drainage Board be written to asking it to have tho floodgates attended to.—Cr M'Farlano seconded tho motion, which was carricd. OEHERAL. On tho motion of Cr Ewing, seconded by Cr Vickery, it was agreed that the footpath on the. Main road on the east side from Lyders's : prbporty to Victoria road bo attended to. It was further agreed that tho inspector should attend to footpaths that required looking to. Complaints were referred to ratepayers of cattle wandering in tho streets, and the ranger was directed to take action with regard thereto. . Cr Vickery called attention to the inconvenience occasioned to tram passengers changing at Ogg'3 Corner at busy parts of the day because the St. Clair trams did not stay long enough to transfer passengers:—lt was resolved that tho Mayor and town clerk wait on Mr Goodman with reference to ■ tho unsatisfactory arrangements nt present in force regarding the running of the cars.
