E. Lightburne tho Republi. can has for perusal a copy of tlio Otago Witness. a weekly publication of Dunedin, New Zealand. It is an interesting newspaper, and conicwhat novel to an American who wants his news about three times a day, and don't care how carolcsly it is handled. Tho Witness has 84- pages of reading matter, five columns to the page,'and very fino print, being issued magazine form, with a covcr. .Thcro are therefore over 400 columns, inclusive of advertisements, containing more good reading matter cach wcofc than sorno people 'have in thoir whole libraries. Thero aro jiages for tho farmer, tho student, the' soientist, ' tho experimenter, and the general reader, together with a number of pages devoted to recent cartoons and fine illustrations. In the _ miscellany columns appears the following clipping that may be news even to some Phmnix people: ' Graham County Gaol at Clifton, in Arizona; is the strongest gaol in tho world. It comprises four largo apartments hewn from the solid quartz rock of a hillside. The entrance is through a box-liko vestibuV built of heavy masonry.'"
