PERSONAL NOTES.
Jlr John Colam, v.lio has held the position of duector and secretary of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animate for upwards of '45 years, has announced bis intention of retiring at the end of July next. Mr Colam, who has entered on his seventyninth year, will still lemain a. member of the Executive Council of the society, and continue to take a watm interest in the cause to which he has devoted his life. Mr R, Hay and Misa Hay, of this city, ore also among the outward passengers by the Gothic, an uncompleted list of whom was published on Saturday. The Lake IVakatipu Mail states that Dr Thomson, resident surgeon of the Arrow Hospital, is severing his connection with that institution shortly to, take up Dr Stephenson's practice in Dunedin. Mr J. Lee. inspector of permanent way at Gore, has received notice of his transfer to Ashburton, and leaves l for his new district today. On Wednesday evening Mr Lee was by the staff at' Eiverton to a farewell supper, being presented with a suitable memento ,of, his stay in Southland. Mr L, Bennett, of Whangarei,' succeeds Mr Lee at Gore. , ( , , ( "
