VITAL STATISTICS.

The following vital statistics for tho month of March are published in tho last issue of tho Gazette:—'

Tho deaths in March were 178, an increase of 31 oil the number in February. Of tho total deaths, males contributed 93, females 85. Seventy-four of the deaths were of children under fivo years of age, being 41.57 per cent-.' of the whole number; 68 of these were under one year of age. There were 38 deaths of 'persons of 65 years and upwards: Two men (71, 84) and eight women (69, 70, 72, 73, two at 74, 75, 93) died at Auckland; four men (68, 73, 76, 82) and thrco women (two at 74, 82), at Wellington .: seven men (67, 68. 71, 74, 75, 79, 84) and Ave women (69, 74, 79, 80, 82), at Christchurch; and three men (67, 74, 77) and fivo women (66, 67, 68, 72, 74), at Dunedin.
