PRESENTATION TO MR. G. C. ISRAEL.
_ At the annual meeting of householders lielcl in the Union Street Schoolroom yesterday evening, Mr G. C. Israel, who has been a, member of the School Committeo for H years, was presented with a large solid silver salver as a memento of his connection with the school. Mr P. Ailkeu. who made the presentation, paid the commit tee, teachers, parents, chiland friends of the school, on tho occtsion of Mr Israel's voluntary retirement from the committee after being a member for 14 years and chairman for five years, desired to offer to him some acknowledgment of the valuable services he had rendered to the school. During the many years that Mr Israel had been on tho committee nothing that affected tlie school's welfare had escaped his attention, and no sacrifice of time or personal convenience had been too great for , him. As a. delegate to flic Schools' conference lie had also dono excellent work, and he was pleased to understand that his present retirement was only of u temporary nature, and that he would be with them again after a brief rest. Ho could r.ot speak too highly of the valuable educational work Mr Israel had performed in the district, and he hoped that ho would allow himself to be nominated to take iv larger share in such work by becoming a candidate for a scat on tho Education Board.—(Applause.) o Mr Aitkeu then presented Mr-Israel with the salver, which bore the instinption::-. "A mark of, appreciation to G. C. Israel, Esq.. from _ parents, scholars, and teachers on his retirement from, the Union Street School Committee after 14 years' service 23/1/05." Mr A. Stewart, ho?.tl master, said he had never found the parents and children oi tha school respond more readily to stny appeal that had been uindo to them than to tho request to contribute towards tho presentation to Mr Israel, and lie endorsed what had been said in. rcgaid to Mr Israel's services. Mr Israel briefly and feelingly replied to what had been said, and assured those who had thought his services worthy of such a recognition that he would at al! times bo willing to do anything ho could for a. school where his wife and his children had been trained, and with which he had been so long connected. The proceedings concluded with checrs for Mr and Mrs Israel, and tho singing or ".Foi! he's a jolly good fellow."
