HIDE SALES.

Messrs Dalgcty and Co. (Limited) report as follows:—This week wo held our usual fortnightly sale of hides at our stores, Cumberland and Yogcl streets, 011 Tuesday in placc of Thursday. There was a good attendance of buyers, and bidding for most of the hides 011 offer was fairly good. Prices realised were cm a par with those ruling a fortnight ago, with the exception of medium 0:; hides, which were, if anything, lower. We nad no specially prime stout hides 011 offer, and our top price for ox was s£d and for cow 4Jd. The following are a few of our sales:—Ox: One GGlb, sJtl; one GOlb, 6d; one Glib, 4Jd; two 471b, ijd; one 381b, 4r}d; four 'l'llb, 4;d;. four 571b, Cow: Fourteen -lOlb, 'Jyd; eight 471b, 4ijd; nine 411b, 4jd; one 4G11), 4Jd; one 321b, 4Jd; two G3ib, ■ijd; eight 5411), 4;d; five 38lb, 4jjd per lb. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report holding their usual fortnightly sale at their stores, Lower liattray street, 011 Tuesday, when they offered a fair-sized catalogue to tho nsua, representative gathering of buyers.' Prices were much on a par with those ruling at last sale, except in the case of stout ox, which appeared appreciably cheaper. As of late, the keenest (Humd was for medium weights—say, up to 481b. There was an average attendance oi buyers, and competition for our catalogue of 302 hides was, 011 tho whole, very good. Light and medium-weight hides quite held their own, but prime stout ox hides were somewhat easier than last. sale. Our top price for ox bides was a£d, at which figure we soid two averaging 70lb, and several others brought SJ;I I>«d, S|d, and t>id. 111 cow hides our top price was Ijd, which we obtained for 13 weighing 4Glb, one weighing 441b. one weighing 421b, and two weighing 391b, while several others brought 4Jd. There was the usual attendance of buyers. Our catalogue was principally made up of light-weights, which again ruled ill sellers' favour, fetching relatively higher prices than other classes, whilst mediumv,'eight ox and cow and also extra heavies sold 011 a par with prices obtained at tho last sale. Quotations: Extra, prime ox, l.p to Cjjd; extra- heavies, 5Jd to Gd; medium, lid to 4jd; extra heavy cow. 4»d to sd; ipedium do, 4id to ; light ox and cow, 4jd to Cd per lb; yearlings, 4s Gd to 6s; calfskins, 2s Gd to 3s Gd; horse hides, 7s Gd to 93 each. Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report having held their fortnightly sale 011 Tuesday instead of on next Thursday, tho usual date, when they offered 300 ox. 135 cow, and 7 calfskins—a total of !>32 hides—to'a full muster of buyers. Throughout tho sale bidding was brisk and competition keen, tho result being that, with the exception of two lines, the whole catalogue was sold at highly satisfactory prices. The bulk of the ox hides were from medium lo good quality, with a few heavy, stout freezing and abbatoir lots, but there was nothing equal to the best lines offered at our last sale, and G|d per lb was top pYice realised by us. although more would have been obtained had hides of sufficient substance been forward. There were also some nice cor,• , hides offered, and up to 4;d per lb was given. With few exceptions, the condition of the offerings was good, especially the lines from freezing works, and this helped the sale considerably.
