DUNEDIN ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY.

The annual mooting of tho Dunodin Accountant Students' Society was held in lite Stock Exchange buildings on Tuesday evening, Mr Wm. Brown (president of the society) occupied the chair, and about 25 members were present. The President, in moving tho adoption of the report, and statement of accounts (already published), said ho was. glad to see that tho socioty had' a balanco in hand. He had no wish to say much becauso they had tho Loader of the Opposition speaking in another hall, and no doubt they were anxious to 50 and hear him. He had great pleasure in congratulating tho members of tho society upon the success which had attended their efforts last session. Regarding last year's examination the local committee had been appointed a special com mitteo to examine and report on tho matter. The Melbourne and Sydney institutes .had acted promptly. He would like some of tho gentlemen present to drop info his office and sec the work that would fco thrown 011 tho local committeo if it revalued the markings of the various papers. It would be sufficient to examine them so far as to be conversant with the questions and tho value of tho answers that had been furnished. They had succeeded in arranging for another examination in April. The advice, however, arrived here too late, and it was thought well to let the first examination take placo in the ordinary course in Octobcr. The Melbourne students had had their opportunity this month, and they would'soon lmar the result. He had pleasure in moving tho adoption'of the report and statement of accounts.—(Applause.) Jtr C. R. Smith, in seconding the motion, said there was nothing in the report calling for any particular comment. The finances were sound, and taking it altogether their last session was very successful; .Most of the members had been a little backward in creating a discussion oil the subjects doalt with bv the lecturers, and he hoped t-hoy would do- better this year. Hearing a paper read was one thing, but a discussion impressed it better upon the mind. Mr A. T. lilytli thought the reason why they were .somewhat 6low in discussing the papers was that it was .extremely awkward to take any of the points and immediately get no and cross-examine the lecturer. Attendance at the lectures had beon . vcry satisfactory. The report and. statement of'accounts were adopted, and: Mr P ;; Hercuu moved
