The Clutha Loader reports the death of Mrs Bales, of Kaka Point, one of the early settlers oE'tlie Clutha district. The deceased-lady was tlio eldest of the family of the lato Mr \V. A. Mosley, of Inchclutha, and arrived with hor father in Dunedin in the John Wioklilfe oil March 23, 1818. Until 1852' she resided with her parents at Halfway Bush, and with them in that year went lo file late Mr Moslev's rural selection at Kaka Point. From here a transfer was made to Mr Moslev's holding on lnehclitlha. and it was here 1 hat Mrs Bates was married. After rosidins at Inchclutha and on tho goldflelos, Ml- and Mrs .Bates settled' dowii at Kaka Point. The deceased lady saw much of file early settlement of the Clutha- district, and had' a good share in (he troubles and discomforts under which the early pioneers laboured. Mrs Bales leaves a family of. five sons and one daughter lo mourn their lossOne son, Edwin, died just a few weeks ago in the prime of life, and since'then Mrs Bates, whose life of lale years has been clouded with much sorrow and bireavomr-nt, was too ill to hear the strain, and her death \va9 hastened in consequence. At Messrs Todd and Brown's establishment yesterday Miss Lyons was presented with a handsome silvc-r teapot and a pair of salt cellars on the eve of her marriage. Mr 1-'. Williams made the presentation, and Mr S. Lothian responded.
