Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, NITROGEN FIXING BACTERIA. MELBOUP.SE, February 16. (Received Feb. 16, at 9.43 p.m.) The first experiment with nitrogen fix ing bacteria was ;i failure. A variety of crops wore sown last season, 'lhe plants made vigorous growth, .but tho exceptionally dry weather hilled them. A QUESTION OF'^WORTHINESS. SYDNEY, February 16. (Deceived Feb. 16, at 10.47 a.m.) . A seaman of the ship Spoke, at Newcastle, was granted a recission of his articles and his wages and costs in an action lie brought against the captain. The charges were that the vessel's rigging and lifeboats were rotten, aiid the supply of food insufficient and bad. The evidence a3 to unseaworthiness was contradictory. One shipwright said that he could push his hand in the boles in the mizzentop, and his knife to the hilt nearly all over the foremast. Lloyd's surveyor, however, disagreed with this. PLAGUE IN BRISBANE. BRISBANE, February 15. (Received Feb. 17, at 0.59 a.m.) Three additional cases of plague have been reported.
