MISSING BANKRUPTS.
WELLINGTON, January 30. The creditors in the bankrupt estate of Adolph and Frederick Newman, formerly tailors, of Wellington, met 10-day. There is nothing in the estate, snid- the Official Assignee, and the bank book shows only a oredit of 5s 6d. It was understood bankrupts had suddenly left Wellington and taken certaiif goods with them. They were supposed to have gone to Napier, hut inquiries there failed to find any trace of them. They ivero sought in Auckland, but again without result. Their opwi accounts show ff<B, and bills payable iu February and March £358 altogether some £500. "It's a very undesirable thing to allow Mieso people to go," tho Official Assignee. "This is the sccqnd ea6e of its kind, and if this tort of thing goes on it will be very serious." Soma comment was made in the delay which had takon place in declaring tliem bankrupt. Tho Official Assignee said if a judge had been here he _ might have acted more quickly tlian the registrar did. The opinion was expressed' that ■ tho Government should appoint someone to aot in the - place of a judge during the holidays in emergencies of this !;ind. It was decided to offer a reward for the discovery of the carrier who . carried the baukrunU' goods, and the meeting adjourned. V • •
