The final arrangements initiated some nine months ago in -connection with tbc formation of the business of Messrs W. Strange and Co., of Christclmrch, ;nto a private jointstock company have, we understand, now been completed. This old and well-known concern was established nearly half a century ago, and for many years was carried on most, successfully by Jtr William Strange, -who subsequently retired and devoted himself to sheep-farming but after the lapse of sonic seven or eight years resumed the active control of the firm of W. Strange and Co. At this time Mr T. Coverdale was associated with him in the management, and in 1905 was ad-, mitted a full partner in the concern, and since the before-mentioned year the management of the house has principally devolved upoii Kr Coverdale's shoulders. In 1903 the New-Zea-land Parliament passed what is known as the Amended Companies Act, which latter permits any two persons to form a joint-stock company. Owing to Mr 'William Strange's advancing years and his natural desire to be relieved of the cares and responsibilities of -business, the two partners decided to avail themselves of the provisions of the abovementioned act, and have formed the concern into a private company, it being agreed that Mr Strange's capital should be represented by preference shares bearing a fixed rate of interest, without any further participation in profits. Mr Coverdale retaining the active control of the concern as managing director. No other person, we are informed, outside the two parties named, has any interest whatsoever in the concern.
