FATHER GAPON AND THE HOLY SYNOD. ST. PETERSBURG, February 10. (Received Feb. 11, at 8.30 a.m.) General Trepoffs dictatorial interference in every department has greatly offended the Ministers, who threatened a collective resignation unless his officiousness were modified. The students of St. Petersburg visited the graves of the victims of the massacre of the 22nd ult., and vow€d vengeance They also threatened the Czar. Sixteen arrests were made. M. Tcherkoff, Governor-general of Warsaw, who was wounded in tho leg during the strike encounters, is dead. The Metropolitan of the Holy Synod has ordered! Father Gapon to appear before the Holy Court within a month to answer the accusation of fomenting disturbances. DISTURBANCES IN POLAND. MANY STRIKERS KILLED AND WOUNDED. ST. PETERSBURG, February 11. (Received Feb. 12, at 4.32 p.m.) Two factories at Lodz not paying the strikers for the strike days brought about collisions with the troops. Twenty strikers were killed and 75 wounded. The strikers crowded in the narrow yard of the German Catherine Colliery, Sosnowice, to prevail the • machinery hands resuming. A cordon of soldiers protected the machinery. A Polish officer repeatedly summoned the strikers to disperse, when the strikers threatened the soldiers with revolvers, one threatening the officer with a knife. The latter ordered the soldiers to fire three volleys, killing 33 and severely wounding 70, many in tho back, as tiicj were fleeing. A THREATENING SITUATION. THEFT OF DYNAMITE. ST. PETERSBURG, February 11. (Received! Feb. 12, at 4.32 p.m.) Eleven pounds of dynamite has been stolen from the neighbourhood of the Cnsimira mines. There are 25,000 strikers in St. Petersburg. They are sullen and vindictive, and the situation is threatening. TORTURING A WOMAN. AN ENFORCED CONFESSION. ST. PETERSBURG, February 11. (Received (Feb. 12, at 4.35 p.m.) There is great indignation at St. Petersburg over the police removing a female student from the hospital and twice cruelly flogging her with birch rods regardless of her suffering from a severe sabre wound ill the breast, until she disclosed her revolutionary associates. It is believed many hare been similarly tortured. GORKY TO BE TRIED. M. DE WITTE'S HOUSE .SEARCHED. ST. PETERSBURG, February 11. (Received Feb. 12, at 4.32 p.m.) It is reported that Maxim Gorky has been sent to Riga to undergo trial. He ; is suspected of wishing to join the projected provisional government to try and disestablish the Church. Within a few hours of succeeding Prince Mirski, M. Boudyguine searched M. de Witte's house and seized a mass of documents. The Conservatives were victorious at the Kkarkoff Zemstvos elections.
