OTAGO RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.
TO Till! EDITOR. Sir,—l notice in the report of the Otago Rjflo AssociatiQii meeting in this morning's Times some' comments about competitors hanging- back for more favourable conditions of weather, etc. Tito facts of .the case are these: It is a well-known fact that tho early morning and evening are tho best times for shooting on Pelichet Bay range. Now, Sir, do you consider it fair that country competitors should lie expected to shoot during the day, and allow the town competitors to shoot in perfect weather? Country competitors have to lose- four days over this mooting, which could easily be completed in two if conducted on the same lines as the Oamaru rifle meeting, for instance. Town competitors make the excuse that if they a,sk leave from their employers they would, be fold to stop away. Now, the competitors from the country districts have to get leave, and in most cases put a man in their place to enablo them to attend this meeting. That being the case, what is to hinder tho local competitors from doing the same and get'the. meeting shot off in two days?— X'am, etc.,—. -. Competitor.
