Sqck races and other sporte fol'lowed, and the evening's entertainment closed: with the representation of an incident of the. "i Boer'war, a desperate fight taking place for ' ."' the possession of a farmhouse defended by a, ' parly of Boers with a Long Tom. The farmhonse after capture was promptly given to the flames to the delight of the youngsters among . tho spectators. Tho band played 1 a number of lively airs during the evening. At the'close ' of the entertainment Lieutenant Jolly, on behalf of the brigade and Volunteers, wonniy, thanked tho band for their kindness in assist- ■ ing, and Mr TIIO3. Marshall responded for tho ■ band. Cheers for the band, tho Volunteers, and the fire brigade, and a " tiger" for Mr R Cook (captain of the fire brigade) were called for and heartily given.
