CROMWELL FIRE BRIGADE.
MOONLIGHT SPOETS. —: «» v ; . (Feoii a Correspondent.) The above sports came off on the 23rd ult, .'. and were a success financially and otherwise. At 7.30 p.m. tho brigade and Volunteers, headed by the Cromwell Brass Band, formed' at the bridge and marched through the town to Victoria Park. The "sticking" Up" of a • maiKcoach by a gang of bushrangers was the first item on the programme, and considerable amusement was caused by the personation of' bushrangers, black-trackera, and mounted troopers. Sqck races and other sporte fol'lowed, and the evening's entertainment closed: with the representation of an incident of the. "i Boer'war, a desperate fight taking place for ' ."' the possession of a farmhouse defended by a, ' parly of Boers with a Long Tom. The farmhonse after capture was promptly given to the flames to the delight of the youngsters among . tho spectators. Tho band played 1 a number of lively airs during the evening. At the'close ' of the entertainment Lieutenant Jolly, on behalf of the brigade and Volunteers, wonniy, thanked tho band for their kindness in assist- ■ ing, and Mr TIIO3. Marshall responded for tho ■ band. Cheers for the band, tho Volunteers, and the fire brigade, and a " tiger" for Mr R Cook (captain of the fire brigade) were called for and heartily given.
