SHIPPING SUMMARY.

This summary records shipping events of the period commencing October 31 and ending November 20, both dates inclusive. STATISTICAL, FOBKICS, KTU. Since tho issue of our last Summary on October 31 shipping nutters, as usual at this poriod of the year, liavo been fai from brisk, owing mainly to the fact that very little of our staple products—wool, grain, and meat—are offering for shipment. A few weeks more, .however, should alter this, and with the advent of the wool clip and grain harvest shipping business will present a bright and busy aspect. During the period represented here tho tot-id number of vessels of all classes which liavo entered the Port of Otago has been 30, representing 79,648 tons gross; whilo tho departures in the same period have amounted to 33 vessels, with a total of 61,747 tens register. For the preceding throe weeks tho total arrivals woro 39, with E0,513 tons, and tho departures 30 vessels, representing 65,846 tons gross. The arrivals from oversea ports liavo been (•■jnfincd to six vessels (four of which were steamships), with a total of 25,272 tons; while tho departures have amounted to two vise's, with a total of 8340 tons register. ]'\>r the preceding three weeks there were, ■seven arrivals under this head, with a total of 18,70 i tons. The first oversea arrival during the present period was that of tho Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamship Karamea, of 5553 lons, Lieutenant Burton, K.N.It., commander, from London, via northern ports, which arrived at the Victoria- wharf. Dun-c-din, on October 31.

The barque Wnosung. of 702 tons, Captain Kvan Oavies, from tho Ciilnn Seas, via iinrprito Island (where she took ill a cargo of guano), arrived at Port Chalmers on November 3: and was followed on (lie Et.h inst. by the United States and Australian Steam Shipping Company's steamship Burgermeister Hachmann, nf 4315 tons, Captain Aim, from New York, via intermediate and coastal ports, bringing some 1200 tons of carifo for Dnnedin;

Captain Prosser, from Liverpool, via northern. ports, with some 2000 tons of general cargo for Dnnedin, arrived in the lower harbour on the 17tli inst.; and the same day saw the arrival of tho New Zealand and South African liner Oswestry Orange, of 6591 tons, Captain Taylor, from Liverpool, via South African, Australian, and New Zealand ports. Tho Shire line-steamer Mimiro, of 4025 tons, Captain Lidstone, left Port Chalmers oil October 31 for West of England ports, via tho Bluff and South Africa.

Tlio s.s. Kurgermeister Hachmann left Dnnedin on November 11 for the Southwest Coast of South America, via Newcastle.

INTERCOLONIAL AND COASTAL. An average amount of trade has been carried out between the Port of Otago and those of tho federated Australian colonies, the arrivals during the past three weeks being represented by 11 vessels, with 37,251 tons, and the departures by 9 vessels, registering 29,624- tons. For the preceding three weeks we had 11 arrivals, with 37,326 tons, and 11 departures, representing 35.070 tons. Thb trade between the Port of Otago and those along the seaboard of New -Zealand has maintained its usual average, the number of arrivals having been 19 vessels, with 17.342 tons, and the departures 22 vessels, with, 26,583 tons. For (he preceding three weeks the arrivals were 21 vessels, with 20,634 tons, and tho departures 16 vessels, with 13,072 tons.
