AMUSEMENTS.

ALHAMBRA THEATRE. In spite of counter attractions ar.d had weather the AHiambra Theatre was very well patronised on Saturday evening by a nia3t appreciative audience. The new programme presented by -Mr Fuller's Entertainers contained- many very good items, and should attract largo audiences during the week. Tho artists to mppeiur in tho first part were Miss Lulu Eugene, Mt J. Marion, Mr Hany Carlton, Miss Tillie J>unbar, and tho M'Auloy Sisters, and-all werO accorded woll-iucnted encores for their singing, and dancing. In somo instances the audience was'not satisfied -with one reappear-ance,-and, even went tho length of recalling for tho third- time. After tho interval Miss Marjorio Atherton sang Totsi's "Good-bye" with- ' really good effcct... The Nawns introduced their inimitable sketch " Shipmates," ah which thero is an abundancoof comedy, .with a slight blending of ipathos. The skotch is a very good one, and •probably 'quite on au equality with anything of the kind seen on tho* vaudeville stage. Kadama, a Japaaoo Eisley artist, mido liia first performance, and performed wonders with a barrel; using his feet only, and was' loudly applauded; Miss -Kitty Lenton made her farewell appearance, aud the audience gave every indication that it recognised it was seeing for the last time a clever performer. Kd-lman ranks among the best conjurers seen in Dun ; edin, and his now act on Saturday night thoroughly mystified tho audience. Tho entertainment concluded with a highly diverting comedietta called "Dr .Cut 'Em Up," which created great amusement. Tho sauio programme will be repeated (his evening, OLYMPIA SKATING- RINK. The Olympia Skating Kink was, as usual, very welt patronised on Saturday, especially in tha evonjng, when the rink director, Mr E. Webb, during a welcome interlude, contributed an intercsting&nd olever series of skating evolutionsj in which a single buggy wheel played a prominent part. For Wednesday and Thursday evenings next attractions are announced in Itka shapo of a fancy dress and hat carnival. A brunch of tho Olympia Sink-will be opened at Milton on Tuesday night in the old skating rink, which Iks been' thoroughly renovated and done up, RIOKARDS'S VAUDEVILLE COMPANY. Mr Harry Rickarils's Vaudeville Company will -inaugurate® short season at His Majesty's Theatro next Saturday. The combination is claimed to bo>a powerful organisation of vaudeville artists. The company includes Madame Marzolla and her collection of trained birds; Mr Will van Allen, "tho musical tramp".; Miss May Moore Duprez and Miss "'Maud Bcatty. A series of animated pictures mil be a feature oJ the programme, which will also bo contributed to by Ada Delroy, Maud Palung, James Belij Maggie Eraser, Edward Ford, Gborgo Bcntloy, the Smith Sisters, and others. Thero will be ono matinee during the season, and tho box iplaii will- bo open tomorrow morning at the -Dresden. HOPE OF DUNEDIN LODGE CONCERT. A concert promoted by the Hope of Dunedin Lodge, 1.0. G.T., was held on Friday cyonihg iu the Rattray street Hall, and was a' most conspicuous succoss. The Chairman (Mr D. C. Cameron, Grand Seorctary- to the order) gavo a most interesting and encouraging address. Ho'siiid the outlook of the temperance cause was full ot hope, and the new Licensing Act was even a decided gain to the great reform, Although tho trade might look upon the abolishing of the compulsory endorsement of license? S3 a victor) - , temperance reformers would rather give a free hand to -the committees when reduction was carried, as it did not always happen that the endorsed houses were the worst. Mr J. Gray recited "The Dandy Fifth." Mr Thomson gave whistling selections (which were encored), Mr W. Mackenzie sang "Asloop on the deep," and for an encore " Doreen." This gentleman has a good voice, and, as the chairman remarked, they were not surprised he got first prize ot .the competitions. Mr W. Duff sang ' My little daughter," end as an encore gavo a coon song. 'Mr T. Gallagher mßde n great hit in his humorous recitations, and was encored. Mr W. Dil played "The lost chord" and other selections on the comet, and was deservedly applauded. Miss J. Orr sang tho " Scottish bluo bolls" in an artistic, and pleasing manner. Mr W. Miller was heard to advantage in tho singing of the new song " Ireland." The last item given was a double coon lurn by Messrs Duff and G-avrno. It proved one of tho most mirthprovoking items, their gags, recitations, and songs bemg excellent and in good taste. Misses Lean nnd South acted as accompanists, and gavo plcasuro and satisfaction. Mr J. Ni Merry proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman and performers, and a pleasant concert closed by all sieging the National Anthem. ST. JOSEPH'S LADIES' SOCIAL CLUB. Tho St. Joseph's Ladies' Social -Club brought its season to a obso on Friday evening last with a most' enjoyable .euchre party and dahccj held lit the Oddfellows' Hall, Rattray street. Tho .whole affair turned out an iimmenso success, fully 80 couplos participating in the dancing. The social items iwero contributed by the Misses Staunton, Lean, M. and J.JBryant, K. . Hannyan, also Messrs King and O'Connor. •Miss Lean officiated at the piano, The catering arrangements were excellently carried out by Miss Staunton (president), assisted by lady members. The decorations, being in the hands of Mr J. A. Pike, left pottiing to be desired, being both pretty and artistic in design. He also acted in conjunction with tho Messrs Miles, making efficient M.O.'s. Mr J. Yates and Mr Beatll supplied the music. . "ABKAH KA POGUE."' l'ho final rehearsal of "Arrah na, Pogue" took place on Saturday night, when tho performaueb went exceptionally well. Tlur-intro-du'etiori ofctfee horse and cart to bring in tho wedding party is sure to prove effective. The mounting is yery complete. Katty's step dance 13 expected to prove acceptable, a'p will tho overpopular song ■" The wearing of the green " by Shauu..' Arrah's songs will introduce a decidedly novel effect, .To ensure a bumper house it only, remains to mention that the prooeeds, go to the maintenance of tho South Duncdin Orphanage.
