CENTRAL MISSION SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY.
Special services in connection with the anniversary of tho' Central Mission Sunday School wore thcld at the Garrison. Hall yesterday, and there were large attendances, particularly of ohildren, at aJ! the services, though tho weather was not tho most favourable. At the morning service the Rev. 11. Ramsbottom preached, and in the afternoon tho Rev. C. H. Laws presided, while the Rev. W. A. Sinclair preached in tho evening. At tho afternoon service the Rev. C. 11. Laws delivered an instructive and interesting address on "Tho Union Jack," and in the course of his remarks ho traced the history of tho grand old flag, and also spoko to tho children on tho lessons taught by that history. In tho evening the Rev. W. A. Sinclair preached on 'St. Paul's advice to Timothy to diligently study the Scripturcs. In the courso of his sermon Mr Sinclair pointed out the necessity for the children being well instructed in the lessons of the Jiiblo, both at tho Sunday-school and at home. He spoko strongly in favour of : tiie Bible-in-schools movement, and said that while.they were fighting for that reform they should not iioglcct the opportunities of teaching the children tho Scriptures at home and. at Sunday school. The singing at the services was under the direction of Mr J. RobertJon, and Miss M'Grcgor presided at the organ. ,Iu the evening tho choir and orchestra assisted. At both the afternoon and evening services sacred solos were contributed by Miss Dorothy MTarianc- and Miss Ethel Pridham, and » the afternoon recitations were given by Miss Thursa Williams and Miss Millie Algar, and the infants oantributed action songs. In connection with the anniversary a service of son'g entitled "Angel's Christmas" was given in the Stafford Street Hall on Friday evening when there was a good attendance. Tho service of song 1 was given by the children, assisted by Miss Cooper as soloist, and others. Tho arrangements in connection therewith and also at tho services yesterday wore under the direction of Mr A. E. 'Moss, Snnday school superintendent, A number of excellent lantern views were shown at the. Friday evening service by Mr A. E. Stevens, Mrs Don reading the connective story. During the service yesterday evening tho Hev. Mr Sinclair paid an eloquent tribute to t-lie well-lived life, tho sterling character, and tho honest work of tho late Mr Jago.
