RESULT OP TIIE INQUEST. (From Our o\vj< Correspondent.) „ . Oetobcr 16. The inquest regarding the death of'Mr •Tames Hislop, architect, was held yesterday, before Mr James Ashcroft, coroner, at the •hospital. Inspector Ellison represented tho police, Mr T, Young the deceased's family, and Air IJenteath watched the "case' in tlio interests of the iiisuranco companies. Mr I. Proctor was foreman of the jury. , A- Wilton, a dairyman, saiil that at 0.111 0 clock 011 Tiiurfday morning lie saw a man on his hands and knee? under a. clav bank at the side of the road. The weather was very wet and rough, and l!je man looked very wet and dirty, and crawled ahout a yard with what seemed like an effort to got a drink from a pool of water near him. Medical testimony was given by Dr. 5 Ewart and Henry. Dr Henry, who mado a post. mortem examination of the body, said that he found that a small ulccr had been ruptured in dcceasod's stomach. I.here.w'as 110 smell of alcohol. Death, in his opinion, was due lo rupture of the ulcer, together with shock and oxposure. Evidence was also given that when deceased left the Empire Hotel at about fivo minutes to 10 o'clock on Wednesday night he was perfectly sober, and that there was 110 reason to'belieye that deceased had with him any more money than that accounted lor, or that his death bad been due to any cause but accident. Tiro jury returned a-verdict in accordance with the medical evidence—viz., "That death was due to perforation of the stomanh following upon the rupture of an ulcer, accelerated by oxposure." Mr Hislop's funeral to-day was largely attended. The . post mortem revealed tho fact tha tin any ca c e he could not have lived more than a fortnight.
