Sin,—Mr Thomas lirov.ii, at tho social given 011 board the Delphic yesterday afternoon, must have drawn greatly 011 liia imagination by stating ho recalled the days when tho Robert Henderson (553 tons), Chili (763), and Agnes Jluir (851) first visited jJuncdin. These vessels never oamc any farther than Port Chalmers. T'lje first sailing ship of any size to come up tile A'ictoria channel was tho barquo Mataura, 853 tons (formerly known as the Dunfillan), commanded by Captain (ireenstreet, and was berthed at Lower Rattray street; and about the same timo (1883) tho To Allan, 1652 tons, Captain T. M'Gce, steamed up the same channel and also made fast at tho same place. Tho first -steamer to drop aijohor in tho upper harbour was tho Queen, and shortly afterwards tho Pirato followed.
