ATHENÆUM COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Athenaum Committee wai lie'.d on Monday night, and attended by Messrs Jcffery (in the chair), Wliitson, Angus, Salmond,. Burton,' James, , Burnett, Granam, Whotter, Marshall, Hutchison, and Dr Mncdonald. It was reported that the inc'om« for the year up to date had increased! bv £75 odd as compared with the corrc speeding period of last year. Since Inst meeting 135 volumes had been added to the library, making tbo total number of accessions since the beginning of the year,. 848. Forty new members had joined the institution Bince last meeting, and 27 old members had terminatedtheir subscriptions. Tho following presentdtioii3 had been received: Directory for Great Britain end Ireland/or 1904; volume 30 of the Transactions and Proceedings of. the Nov; Zealand Institute . (from -the Colonial Museum); and the librarian's report for 1903, and other publications connected with the Library oi Congress (from the Smithsonian Institute U.S.A.). The question of giving tu-.nual tickets as prizes for children attending the city and suburban schools, as was done last year, was referred 'to the executive. It v.as decided to add some new magazines to tile reading xoont supply, and to increase the number of some of thJ more popular magazines already received.
