"A NAME."

TO TIXE EDITOR. Sin,—Allow mo spaco for answer to Mr John Downio's letter of tho 10th inst. Now, Sir, I was always, until now, of tho opinion that Mr Downic was a man of common se-nse. Just fancy a man of his standing in tho Flat writing such an insulting and nonsensical letter as lie has done. I ask^ this: ''Has ho an .oxo to grind?" Now, Sir, do you think Mr Downio justified in his remarks about Mr Ogg and taxes, etc.? I would beg him to remember that Mr John Ogg is, and has always been, a gentlenun, and more of a loading man in social matters than Mr Downio has over been, or will ever be. It's a pity John Ogg didn't hayo the luck to be a ratepayer. If he had, Mr Downio might have altered his tune, It's always been " Ogg's Corner," and, say what Mr Downic likes, it will always be " Ogg's Corner." It's not an easy thing to break people off an acquired habit of long years' standing. And why should it n?t be? I know of several people who, when tho electric car conductor, asked, "Whire to?" and they replied "Cargill road," were charged twopence. Again, why docs Air Downio need to ask where a car is going if bo only uses his eyes and his brains? I wouldn't bo surprised if lie wont to tho Roslyn car and asked if it was going to Wingatui. And there are a few moro of his sort knocking about.—l am, etc., Stick to It. South Dunedin, September 10.
