(Pkr United Pup.sb Association.) OPOTIKI, September 12. The Opotiki Hotel, Bay of Plenty, was destroyed by firo at 2 ium. tc-diy. Several of the inmates had narrow escapes. Walter Martin, son of the licensee, sustained severe burns in falling through tho floor, which guve way under him. Mr Martin, t.lio licences, lost furniture valued at £1003 and stock valued at £300, which was only insured for £500. It is believed that the building was insured for £2000. A building adjoining tho hotel, occupied bv Mr Platta and owned by Mr Heather, was totally destroyed, and Mr Webb's Imikling was partly damaged. Mr Plaits estimates his lots at £500.

NEW PLYMOUTH, September 12. This afternoon tho police raided an eating house called the Silver Grid, run by Vincent Kurta, an Italian, and poized a quantity of ■gTog, including beer and whisky. Prosecutions will follow.

An attempt was mado to dynamite a safo in Mr 0. Smith's establishment last night. The burglars gained adniittanee through a window by forcing tho lock. The report of tho explosion was deadened by drapery wound round the safe. The dynamite litoko Che lock of tho safo, but tho bolts held, and the contents wero intact. Tliero was about £40 in cash in the safe.
