A NEGLECTED ROAD.

TO TUB EDITOK, Silt,—Can you inform me. or is it possible to find out, which of the- following corporations/ is responsible for tho maintenance of that pigco of road between Union street and Palmer"'* quarry, commonly known as tho Bay road? Is it-tho Harbour Board, tho Dunodin City Council, or- tho West Harbour Borough Council? This road in wet weather is simply a quagmiro from end to end, and is impassable to pedestrians and cyclists. On Sunday whilst .passing the Bay ; road in tho 5.30 p.m. train to town I was a witness of the scene, of an unfortunate cyclist crawling up the bank dragging his bicycle after him. I surmise that he had been carefully wending his way along the only rideable part, which happened to bo tho extreme edge, when ha struck a rut and was thrown into the water and mud. At anyrate, he did look a picture. That is not all. I essayed to walk down to Ravensboum'o in the dark on Sunday night, but when crossing tho Bay road I found that I had to wado through mud and water anklo deep. I mot a man trying to guide two ladies through it, but I am afraid they wcro very dirty before they reached terra firma. This state of affairs is not without its humorous side, when you come to think of tho fact that it is tho eartago to and from til.; quarry which wcai's the road out. Perhaps Mr Cray, tho caiergctic Mayor of West Harbour, will move in this matter.—l am, etc,, no mudlark, but Dirty Boots.
