BLENHEIM, June 3. The. ceremony of unveiling the monument erected on Tuamarina Hill :n memory of 11 Marlboroiigh men who lost their lives in tho South African war took placo to-day, ■in lino weather. There- was a large attendancp of Volunteers and the public. After religious ceremony the Hon., (J. H. Mills liCTformwl the unveiling function, - and opecchfs wero also delivered by prominent citizens, some of whom protested against the introduction of' Cliiiir.se- labour into South Africa. It was stated that representation would l>3 made to the Government to have tho name of the hill (on whioh stands the Wairau massaero monument) changed from Massacre Hill, tho old-term being considered historically false, and an undeserved slur on the Maori rao?. Th« cost of tho new monument was £209.
