LECTURE ON TECHNICAL EDUCATION.

There was a good audience at the Choral Hall on Thursday evening. to hearl the lecture on "Technical Education by Mail," by Mr S. J. Mathisou. Mi J. L. Salmond, arehitcot, occupied the chair, and in" his introductory, remarks referred to the groat need in the present day for thorough tocltnical training, 'and. the e)lendid work that the American School of orrespondence at Armour lusfituto of Technology is doing in meeting this want. \

The hearty applause accorded the chairman indicated that his remarks were endowed .by the audience. The iecturoi - , who waa greeted with applause, and whose remarks wero followed with close interost throughout, referred to the contest going oh in, the world for industrial supremacy, and showed how the need for technical training is being met. An inter-seting description was given of tho Armour Institute of Technology, the finely-equipped technical training college founded and endowed I 'by the lute Philip D. Armour. Speoial montion was also pad© of the great work done by tho American School of Correspondence in taking through the mails technical instate-, tion to those unable to attend a. residcat' college, and it was shown that through the American School students residing in all parti of the world can now shore in the bonefifs of the instructors, workshops, laboratories, and libraries of tho Armour Institute, the association of the latter with tho American School being described by a-well-known American write; as the greatest advance yet made in correspondence instruction. A number of fine views of the Armour Institute, American School,. graduates, etc., wero shown, and anion appreciated. _ At tho conclusion of the lecture Mr Mathison received, a hearty vote of thanks. On the motion of the lecturer, Mr Salmond -was by acclamation: heartily thanked for presiding at tho meeting.
