LORD RANFURLY'S FAREWELL.

(Pep. United Press Association.! AUCKLAND, June 1. Tbo leave-taking o£ the Governor was accomplished this afternoon with relatively little ceremony, the official farewell having been token on Saturday night last. A squadron of the Seddon Horse acted as an escort from Government House, and at the Railway Station, where a special train awaited the Governor, the Permanent Artillery men of tho city formed a guard of honour, under the command oE Lieutenant Chcsney. Tho Empire V-eterans' Association were assembled to the number of 6cvoral hundreds, under their officers, having como from all parts of the district to bid farewell to Lord Ranfurly. They came to the salute as his Exeolloucy approached, and tho Garrison liand, which also paraded, played the National Anthem. Tho Mayor of Auckland (the Hon. E. Mitchelson), and town clerk, and Colonel Davies, C.8., were present to take formal leave 'of his Excellency, and there woro numerous prominent citizens present for the same purpose. His Excellency addressed a few words of counsel and "farewell to the assembled veterans, and they responded with cheers, which were again and again repeated as the. train moved off. His Excollency > was accompanied by Major Alexander (private secretary). "nd ' ue Hens. J- M'Gowitn and Colonel Pitt. At Onehunga, his Excellency was met by (ho Mayor of the borough and councillors, and a largo number of townsfolk attended at tho wharf to give his Excellency a great send-off. His Excellency goes from Now Plymouth on a flying to Stratford, Napier, and Gisbocae, and will bo back in Wellington by Juno 6. On the 9th he ie to attend a social Maori meoting in his honour at Papawai, and on. tho 20th ho leaves Now Zealand for Australia. That country he departs from soon after visiting his Mildura Estate, and ho travels by way of Vancouver and Canada generally to, England, where he will arrivo about Sep-I tember 1. '
