CARGILL ROAD WESLEYAN CHURCH.

The animal concert and soiree of (ho Cargill Road Wesleyan Church was held last evening. About 230 sat down at tea, the tables being presided over by Mesdames Develin, Barkman, Peterson, Granniitt, Ramsford, Cole, G-lasse, Drane. Bell, and Bridgman, Misses A. and L. Cole, Peterson, Passmore, 'Ward, Swan, Wa-tkuis, M'Corkindale, Buttcrworth, and Barkman. There was a large attendance of members and friends at the concert, which was held in the church. An excellent programme had been provided for the occasion, and the vorions items were much appreciated by those present. Encores wero frequent during the evenin". Before the concert began Mr Fawcct-t read °a chapter from the Bible, and Mr Hopper engaged in prayer. The choir, under'tho leadership of the Rev. J. Ward, rendered tho anthems "My soul waiteth" (solo, Misg Hutcheson), " God is the refuge" (solo, Miss Palmer), and " Sing to the Lord" (solo, Miss Swan) in a highly creditable manner. The gentlemen of the choir gave the choruses " Come, spirit, come" (solo, Mr Cole), " Sun of my soul" (solo, Mr Owen), and " Sweet hour of prayer." Solos were sung by Mr H. Foster, "David singing before Saul"; Mr B. Foster, jun., "A dream of paradise. The Messrs Foster, rendered the duet " Excelsior," and Miss Cooke and Mr A. Cooke "Ave satictissime." Jlis3 Adair recited " The Ballad of a Splendid Silence"; Mr B. A. de Laulour gave as a violin solo "He wipes the tear"; Mr T. Parker, 'cello solo, " Romance"; a guitar and mandolin selection was given by Misses Iliggs, Fletcher, Grant, and Anderson; and Sister Olive contributed the soio " Moment by moment," with autoharu accompaniment. Miss Palmer presided at the organ. During the evening addresses were delivered by Mr Cole and the Rev. P. W. Fairclciigh. Following is a summary of the annual report, which was read bv the secretary (Mr J. B. Sliacklock):-

"It is with a feeling of gratitude to our Heavenly Father for nis goodness to us that we present our twenty-first annual report. Tho preaching of the Word by the Minister (the Rev. J. Word), the homo missionaries (Messrs Hopper and Fawcctt), and local preachers has been diligently and faithfully carried oil! during the past year, and we trust their ser. vices have been blessed and made a blessin° to the various congregations. During the veal % sl ' ort mission wes conducted by the Rev. G. H. Co:c, of Melbourne, which resulted in several conversions; also at Momona there has been during the year a revival of God's work and a number of conversions. The total number of members on, the circuit roll is 314 being an increase of six for tho year; but it must be borne in mind that there have been six deaths. During the year there wero 27 transfers to other circuits, and 1-i removals and resignations, so that the membership has been well maintained. In addition to those in full membership, there are 13 on trial Two services have been held at Cargil! Road Church during the year for tho public reception of new members, at which 30 were received into full membrship. During tho year the church lost the following members bv death:-Mr Lewi* J t. , „! ntcr ! and 3D ' 3 Coleman, of Caroli Road Church; Mr Howell, of Mos»iel- Mr BooW and Mr Bishop, of the Peninsula: and in the death of Mr Green our Broad Bay umrcli loses a staunch supporter and friend Good work continues to be done in our Sunday short!) erect two new classrooms for the better accommodation of their Young Men's and Joung Women's Bible Class. The trustees havo given permission for this work to bo done, and when completed it will enable this branch of the school work to be more efficiently clone, lie Chr:st-ian Endeavour Societies continue an important work among our voun" people. The meetings are always helpful, and all young people are cordially invited. Tho Debating Society reports a- short but interesting session, which closed with a membershiD of over 50. We report with regret that the weeklvnight sen-ice is still poorly attended. The attendance at the sacrament services is most encouraging. During the year, through the elforts of Mr Barkman in coUectin" thc'n»ce«sary money, individual cups have been introduced. The parsonage has been completed" and is now occupied by our minister. Tho debt to the Loan Fund Committee amounts to &00, and has to be paid back at the rate of fcO per annum. The v/sckly offertories have been well maintamed. In the midst of our local work missions have not been neglected, as shown by the last renorts. The sum of jSSB 10s Gd was raised for home missions, and £S2 5s 2d foi foreign missions, o'ljclutfiiig a special donation of £50 to each of tho mission funds. The balance sheet of the church trustees shows n small debit balance of is 3d. Wo have ngam to express out appreciation of (he work of our choir in leading our service of praise. Our thanks are also due to the organist, Miss Palmer. About a year ago Mr Low resigned his portion as choirmaster, and. a'.thongh tho work has been temporarilv done bv tha minister, the trustees hope soon to be in a position to appoint a successor to Mr Low. An orchestra has beer, started, under the leadership of Mr Low. It has been of ennsideraole assistance to our. chvrch music. We sincerely thank Mr Dowland mid his staff of heloers for their work in cleaning the church buitangs gratis. During the vear Mr Colo resigned his position of church "secretary, and Mr Sliacklock was appointed in his 'phce. Mr Cole still retains his position as treasurer."
