OTAGO BCGBY FOOTBALL UNION,
The usual meeting of the committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union.was hold last evening, and was attended by Sir J. Hutchison (in tho chair), Dr Hunter, Messrs A. VO. Hanion, G. iU'Laren, i'. H. Gampbell, W. A. Wilkinson, i>. Cameron, V. Ross, H. Harris, P. J. Priest, G. W. Macttonald, V. Uavanagh, 0. M. Munro, and (ji. Smith (tfeerotary). . The Chairman raised the question of whether tho Onion was entitled to play members of the South Canterbury teams m jts representatives. He stated that he raised tho question principally because if the Canterbury Union was entitled to draw upon the South. Canterbury C'nion, which was a separate body, and •which was directly represented on the New Zealand Union, then tho Ocago Union was equally entitled to draw on tho Southland Union, and the Wellington Union to draw upon the various unions in that provincial district. If the action of the Canterbury Union was right, the proposed efforts of tho ■Wellington Union to secure tho amalgamation of the unions in tho Wellington provincial district with a view to placing a representative team in the field were unnecessary. It was desirable that the question of tho inclusion in the teams.of any provincial union of any ptlayers from portions of that provincial district which had a different union should be settled, and he thought the Now Zealand Union should bo asked for an of opinion on the subject. He moved—"That the Canterbury Kugby Union bo informed that in the opinion of this committee it is desirable that the question of tho right of any union to include in its teams repreeentatiyes of other unions enjoying a separate existenca and possessing direct representation on tho Now. Zealand Union should bo definitely settled, and that an expression of opinion on tho subject should be obtained from the New Zealand Union, ami that the secretary should be instructed to write accordingly to the New Zealand Union."
The motion was seconded by Mr Macdonald and carried.
The question of allowing frosh players to take the place of thoso who wero injured in matches was also .brought up, thin being the outcome of the Canterbury match, in which on injured player was replaced by another, contrary to the ruling of the English Union. After a good deal of discussion it was decided, on the motion of Mr Campbell, seconded by ,Mr Harris—"That the committee regrets that tho captain of tho Otago team should have allowed a Canterbury player to replace an injured -player in the Otago-Cantcrbury match, in. direct defianco of tho decision of the English Union, which dooision wafl circulated throughout New Zealand by the New Zealand Rugby Football Union."
It was further dcoided—"That the secretary be instructed to convoy a copy of tho foregoing resolution to the New Zealand Rugby Union, and to request the New Zealand Union to inquire from tho referee the circumstances under which tho substitution of a fresh player for an injured one took place, and to deal with the matter as it may think fit." ASSOCIATION. The Second Grade five-aisido tournament was held at Bishopscourfc before a largo number of spectators. The .ground was in perfect condition, and some excellent games were played.
