"SWEET NELL OP OLD DRURY." •• Notwithstanding the unpropitious weather last evening, the Princess Theatre was filled with a large and enthusiastic audience to witness the fifth production of " Sweet Nell of Old Drury." The piece i 3 intensely interesting from start to finish, and affords Miss Nellie Stewart (who fills the rolo of Sweet Nell) many opportunities of displaying her powers as an actress. Her graceful movements and clever acting are the chief features of the piece. _ Last evening she fairly captivated the audience, who frequently showed their appreciation by plaudits of the heartiest description. The parts allotted to the other members of the company were sustained with infinite credit. On Saturday afternoon the Musgrove Comedy Compauy will give a matinee performance of " Sweet Nell of Old Drury," which should not only greatly convenience those living. at a distance, but should be well patronised by parents who wish to take tho opportunity of showing their children what may be termed an absolutely perfect series of pictures of the time of Charles 11. With a strict insistance 011 every detail being correct, Mr Musgrove had every dress made and each article of furniture modelled from pictures of the period, while Miss Nellie Stewart, Mr Harcourt Beatty, .and the other members of iho company bear themselves with the gallant carriage of the age which they depict. The last nights are already, unfortunately, announced, as the company are shortly due in 'Ckristchiircli.
•FULLER'S ENTERTAINERS. I The combination of variety artists occupying the boards at the Albamb'ra Theatre is undoubtedly one of considerable strength, and able to 'cany out a programme attractive enough for the most exacting of Mr Fuller's patrons. The attendance last night, despite j the wet weather, was very satisfactory, and those present manifested thoir appreciation of
tho efforts of the performers in tlio most cordial fAphioii. Misaes Blackie and Lamont, and Messrs Carnie, Rowe, and Stevens, however, being specially, singled out by the audience with marks of favour. The sauie programme will be repeated this evening,
There arrived the other day, quietly and without any fuss, Herr Franz, the renowned strong man from Vienna, whose fame lias preceded Win. He is a small man, hardly list in weight, but does some marvellous feats of strength. Amongst his little items he carries a horse up, a ladder, allows two horses to have a see-saw on his chest, has two blacksmiths flattening out a piece of hard steel on an anvil weighing 4001b whilst holding the same on his bare chest, pulls against a number of men with his teeth, takes a 2251b barbell with three men sitting on it up a ladder whilst lighting a cigar, juggles with 7olb cannon balls, and does, altogether tho most novel and up-to-date feats in the strong man line ever seen in New Zealand. Sandow considers Herr Franz one of the best light-weight men in tho profession, and is a great friend of Herr Franz's, who, by tho way, is quite a young man. Asked if Herr Franz would perform at Dnnedin, he said lie thought so, and he also intended, if possible, to open a real German gymnasium,
