THE CHARGE AGAINST DR FULLARTON.
(Fnoir Oon Ows Correspondent.) : INVEROARGILL, March-8. The trial of Dr Pullarton, charged! "vvithi. performing an illegal operation, began on. Friday, and was concluded shortly beforo 5 o'clock on Saturday. Tho jury, aft® a re-" tiremont of less than fivo minutes, returned: a verdict of "Not guilty," Tho girl Bates, under cross-examination, admitted receiving certain ■ pilis freir Campbell before- the ■alleged operation, but said she did not -use them. Campbell admitted he gave them to secure tho desired result. For the defence, the principal evidence was that of Margaret '■ and W. Gill, who said that Dr Fullartoa > was at their bouse at Woodend after 7 p.m. on tla 13th January. Tho allaged- operation was said to have been performed about 8.15 that evening. James Wall is gave evidence that ho was in Dr Pullarton's house at 7.50 on that evening, and heard Dr Fullarton ■say to the girl that ho could not do anything. Re- did not know what that reply - referred to. Wallis also said'that the doctor could not have been in the room with the girl more than two minutes.
