VISIT OF LORD (HAWKE'S TEAM AND' THE HALF-HQLIDAY. A meeting of the retailors' section of the Otago, Employers' Association was held yesterday morning to consider the postponement of the half-holiday on Wednesday, the 11th February, to Friday, the 13th,. on account of the arrival of Lord Hawke's orieket team. Some correspondence' from, .the Cricket Association was read, and after a short discussion it was unanimously vosolved to close accordingly, and that a depu-' tion wait on the Mayor to ask him to pro. . claim a half-holiday on that afternoon. A deputation from the Retailers' Association aftenvards waited on his Worship the Mayor with a request that he would ask the citizens to observe the afternoon of Friday, Fohruary 13, as a half-holiday instead of the . usual half-holiday on Wednesday afternoon. Mr Chisholm introduced the deputation.: Ho explained that the association had been approached by the Cricket Association on this matter, and had agreed to fall in with, their wishes. His Worship said it would' give hint much pleasure to accede to the request, and ho would see that the change \ was duly advertised, so that visitors from the country might be advised in good time. (Received January 20. at 1.17 a.m.) The Cricket Association has decided thai! 50 per cent, of the gross takings in the Sydney match against Lord Hawke's team, shall bo handed to the Englishmen, the New Zealand Cricket Council (who make their own arrangements) sharing. The association also adopted a resolution repudiating thof action of the Cricket Ground Trustees in negotiating with tho New Zealand Cricket Council in connection with the Lord Hawke'g Team match, such negotiations infringing ' the rights and privileges of tho association, which is the. body entrusted with the management of cricket in the State of New South Wales. ! The Junior Cup match Green Island v, Albion No. 1 was played at Green Island. The homo time won tho toss and elected to bat, but only managed to account for 44 ' runs, towards which It. King contributed 16 and C. Harraway 9. Permin bowled excellently, and secured an average of eight wickets for 20 runs, Pickard bagging two for 11. Tho visitors on going to tho crease fared . much hotter, having a score of 137 before all were disposal of. Jcssop (31), Gibson (20), Ghcry (17), and Permin (27, not out) played fery good cricket. The bowling honours fell to R. King with four wickets, the others falling to Messrs Harraway (2) ■ and Watson. • During the afternoon the visitors were entertained by the Misses Harraway at afternoon tea, which was thoroughly appreciated by all present. ■ Tho unfinished match between . and Grange Clubs will take place this evening at 6 o'clock.
