THE DRAINAGE BOARD ELECTION AND THE WAIPORI FALLS ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY.

10 THE EDITOR. Sir,— Every effort should be made to exclude the directors or nominees of the Waipori Falls Electric Power Company from, the Drainage Board. Mr Thomas Fergus has retired, but Messrs Burnett and. Louden remain, and Mr Hazlett takes Mr Fergus's place. My reason for writing is that the. citizens will soon introduce the Lee Stream electric power for tramways, lighting, and otber purposes, but the Waipori Electrio Company are trying to checkmate this, for tho purpose of substituting their power. If they obtain seats on the Drainage Board, it 13 but natural to suppose that they will try to introduce their electrio power for drainage purposes, and once, introduced the company would compete against and injure, not only the corporation electrio power, but the corporation gasworks. It would be an anomaly if the citizens who find the money for drainage were to obtain their electrio pdwer from a company, of private speculators! Yot this is likely to occur. No private company should bold these water righb; they should belong to the peoplo; and in view of a Greater Dunedin I hope the suburban residents will view this matter as I do. . It is immaterial'who are eleoted so ,long as those who are (mixed up in this Waipori business are rejected. I learn that Counr cillors Maitland and Tapper did not "officially represent" the council in the recent visit to the Waipori Falls.—l am, I etc WATOHDOG.
