CASUALTIES.
(Peb United Fbbss Association,) LYTTELTON, January 18. MrEdger, chief'refrigorating engineer of the Corinthio, and tiro greasers (Daniel Calkglian and William Curl), who were burned about the faces, hands, find arms by a gas explosion in the. refrigerating department on board when coming from Wellington on Friday afternoon, aro doing fairly well. Oollaghan is the most injured, being terribly burned on the arms and head. John O'Brien, a labourer, supposed l to have come from the Oamaru district, died suddenly at Tuapelta "West on Saturday morning. An inquest was held, and a verdict of death from heart disease returned. A two-month-old child, tho daughter of Jane Campbell, diod while in a. convulsion at the Salvation Army Home on Saturday. Tho child was illegitimate, find in this connection a serious charge brought against the father of the young woman was dismissed at tlie last criminal sittings in Dunedin. It appears that Dr Martin was called in to see tho child on Saturday, but it was dead by the time he readied the Home.
