THE TOURNAMENT IX CHRISTCHURCH. (Faoit Our Own Corkesfdndent.) CHRISTCHimCH, January 18. The meeting of bowlers preceding the annual tournament was held in the Hereford Hotel, Christchurch, on Saturday evening, at which there was a large attendance. Thirty-four rinks were entered, made up as follows:—Wellington, Thorndon, Victoria, Timr.ru, Lawrence, Green Island, Sydenham, Oaraimi, Soutlibridgc, Gore, one each; Kiutuna,. ltoslyn. Phoenix, and Ashburton, two each; Invorcargil! and Dunedin, three each; C'hristehurch. four; and Canterbury, six. The draw took place the same evening. In the first round Allnult (Roslyn) meets a Canterbury rink skipped by Barlow—not the Mr Barlow late of the Caledonian Club, Dunedin. As iisiial. amongst bowlers, there was much enthusiasm and many warm welcomes. Regret was expressed (hat the Caledonian and Taiori Clubs had'not sent any representatives. Play commences on Monday morning at 0.30. One member from each club present was appointed the Tournament Committee. Mr Jacques (the president,6! the 'association) ably presided over'the meeting, and Mr Stewart (the newly-appointed secretary) shaped well. The greens, lam told, are'in splendid order The weather is glorious, and if the rnin keeps of! a very successful gathering may be anticipated. ' • ■ ■ . KORTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT. (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N,, January 18. The bowling tournament terminated yesterday with tho playing off of the last rounds in the Hnddart-Parker trophy competition. There were 1G competing teams. Newtown, the present holders, and Palinerston No. 2, winners of tho championship, were left in the final. After a keen game Newtown gained a. deserved victory by a bare single, the scores being 23—24. At one stage of the game Palmerstohwas leading by 13. A scratch match was plnyed during the day between a visiting team of pressing and some members of the local dull, -and the pressmen won a. finely-played game by 32 to 2-2. The visiting bowlers speali in the liMicst. terms of admiration of the liosnitsiliiy extended by the Palmerston Club and others. Tho tournament is regarded as the most successful ever promoted by tho North Island Bowlin» Association. . ° KOSLYiY v. GREEX ISLAND. A match was played on Saturday at RoMyn between teams of new members of the Roslyn | and Green Island Clubs, and a well-contested game resulted in a, tie nt the 21st head, the visitors winning the deciding head by 1 point. ±he following are the players and scores;— Green Island. Dickson (s) .. 20 A friendly game between scratch senior teams was also played, in which the visitors were also successful, Green Island (A. Falconer skip) scoring 23 to Eoslyc's (J. 13. Callan skip) 21. Afternoon tea. was provided by some lady friends of the riub, and contributed largely to a most enjoyable time. PORT CHALMERS'v. ST. CLAIR. The Port Chalmers and St. Clair Clubs played (heir annual match at St. Clair on Saturday. The weather was perfect, and consequently a very pleasant afternoon was spent.
