TREATIES AND TARIFFS.

Press Association—By Telegraph-Copyright. BERLIN, January 17. (Received Jan. 18, at 4.45 p.m.) Despite the resistance of Count von Posadowisky, the German Minister of the Interior, and his promise that greater care would be taken in connection witu the most-favoured-nation clause, in commercial treaties, the Reichstag, by 141 to G7, recommended tariff treaties instead of most favoured treatment. Count Herbert Bismarck said the resolution was intended to secure better commercial relations andthe unity of the States of Germany. Their lamblike patience was exhausted. Germany was entitled to emphasise that she did not intend to be taken in a second time.' VIENNA, January 17. (Received Jan. 18, at 4.4S p.m.) Herr Szeil, President of tlie Hungarian Ministry was applauded in detailing tho terms of the Aiigsleich, under which he said there could be an early conversion of State notes into gold, the establishment of a Customs tariff common to Austria and Hungary, embodying Jiigher duties to correspond with those of Germany. Thus a balance would be established between the protection of Austrian industry and tho protected condition of Hungarian agriculture. Herr Squid added Ijjpt tho tariff would be a defensive wearjbn in the negotiation of treaties. A similar statement by Von Koerber in tho Austrian Reichsrath was favourably received.
