LAND OPEN FOR SELECTION.

WELLINGTON, January 9. A proclamation in to-night's Gazette shows that there will shortly be a tremendous area of land opened for selection. The following areas aro announced:—Agricultural: Auckland, 268,000 acres. Pastoral: Canterbury, 640,000 acres;' Marlbornugh, 157.644 acres; Otago, 13,500 acres; Southland, 11.500 acres; Westlaud, 61,700 acres;total, 1,152,344 acres. In Auckland province tho blocks tiirown open are in Kawhia, North and South Maungamangero, Tutamoe, Hokiango. Tauranga. Puketapu, Karangahape, Wharepa, Whakatane, Kotorua, Mongonui, Taupo, and Opotiki. The Canterbury lands are pastoral rims in Waimate. Geraldine, Mackenzie, Ashlnirton, and Ashley Counties, varying in size from 5400 to 50,000 acres. The Otago runs are in Waitaki, Maniototo, Taieri, Vincent, Tuapeka. and Waihomo. In Marlborough the Lpatham, Raglan, Molesworth, and Patriarch survey districts are tapped.
