(Received Jan. 7, at 11.39 p.m.) As an outcome nf the strike at'Dcuahv Main Collieries, Yorkshire, -.100 colliers and their families wore evicted in the presence of large bodies of armed police. The strike still continues. THE TAFJP VALE CASIO. The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants has resolved not tn appeal against the decision in tho Taff Yale case, but to support any other union wishing to appeal. Mr liell. the secretary of the society, reported to the society that the damages and uostr. over the case amounted to £50,000. He deprecated the carelessness of ordinary members in electing irresponsible orators upon tho executive instead of men of grit, who rigidly administer the rules. CONTRACT LABOUR. The Hon. Henry Copeliuidj Agentgeneral for New South Wales, replying to Mr Jepson's remarks on. the restriction of immigrants into the I'ommonj wealth, justifies the .Labour Act, as defeating any ilank movement intended to undermine Australian workers. Ho adds: "It is probable that tho six hatters will now join the' union and subscribe to those rules you so virtuously condemn."
