The height at th. Alexandra bridge last ' evening was Bft above the normal mark.— With the exception of the Moa No. 2, and Perseveranco No. 1, all the dredges about Alexandra have shut down for the holidays. Necessary repairs are being effected in the meantime." . NOTES FROM ARROWTOWN. (From Our Own Cobrksponotnt.) ARROWTOWN, December 3U It appears as though the annual carnival had j sharpening effect upon the mining perception and instincts of fossicker and prospector ■ alike. With every recurrence •of the season : reports of finds in old ground and of new. i discoveries are heard, and, though some allow- | ance must be made for the closer intercourse of miners during tne festive season, the con- • soling fact remains that all the gold has not ' yet been dug. This season made no exception to the general rule; but it may be stated flint the reports refer more and ..norc to outlying localities—a fact rathor favourable than otherwise, proving that search is not relaxed and that there is still a reward for it somewhere. • The holidays naturally have put a temporary '. stop to actual work; but this year they wilt fortunately como to an end with' the observation of New Year, while formerly the Frankton races came a fortnight or so after. More than usual reticence is observed in regard to Christmas clean-ups, but it is understood that they | were satisfactory, though in many, cases the clean-up is postponed till winter. The dismantling of the Arthur's Point dredge is progressing amain, and a large portion of the machinery is lying upon the bank ready to be cartod nway to its new destination, the Riso : and Shine claim, where some- of the machinery i has already gone. ' Mr R. T. Scott has applied for.a quartz claim near SkipperVPoint, with fair prospects of success. i Tho lode prospected for some time by Mr t P. Barron near Big Beach, Arrow Valley.'continires to yield encouraging prospects. A track to the claim, which was an arduous piece of work to undertake, is now nearly finished. i
