At the Baptist Church to-night there was a largo gathering to take farewell of the Rev. 11. S. Gray, who has ieen pastor for some j'ears, and who recently held a seat in the City Council. Ample evidence was afforded of the high appreciation in which the rev. gentleman i 3 held by the congregation. He was presented with a typewriter and a purse of sovereigns, Mrs Gray being the recipient of a gold 'brooch and a travelling bag. The Rev, Mr Gray leaves tomorrow for Christchur'eh, where he takes the pastorate of the Baptist Church. GREYMOUTH, September 30. The Tyncsido Colliery Company is erecting bins and screens. The mine is olear oi water alnd, in good condition, with a large quantity of good coal in Bight. Owing to the backward state of the bins and screen it will be two months before coal is in the market. In connection with the sawmillers' dispute a conference was held here yesterday afternoon, when terms were com* to in regard to rates, which remain as heretofore. A large number of unemployed in the district propose, calling a public meeting to urge the Government to proceed more rapidly with the State coal railway. HOKITIKA,, September 30. At the Supreme Coult, in Rax v. Gregory, the case for the Crown closed this morning. Mr Guinness, for accused, applied for ,& remand till Thursday to enable further evidence to 'be obtained from Murchioon. His Honor consented to the adjournment. The case Hillier v. Jacobs was a charge of creating a public nuisance by erecting certain buildings on a public road near Greymouth. After hearing the evidence of two surveyors Mr Justice Denniston directed the jury to find a technical verdict of "Guilty," and then ordered the buildings to be removed in reasonable time. The question of costs was reserved, to enable the judge to consult the other judges. In civil jurisdiction, the oase Earl v, the Government was commenced before a jury. This is a claim for £1500 damages for the loss of a right leg on the Greymouth wbarf 12 months ago by a railway truck. Several witnesses for the complainant were examined, and the further hearing adjourned till to-morrow. OHRISTCHUROH, September 30. Mr T. E. Taylor was formally welcomed homo by prohibitionists and friends at a social gathering last evening. He made no definite announcement regarding his candidature at the coming election, out pledged himself to enter with renewed energy into the ho-license campaign, and expressed the belief that the Prohibition.-party were going to win. Incidentally ho uttered a strong protest, against the proposal to create an Imperial military reserve in New Zealand.
