THE BOER GENERALS
PROPOSED INTERVIEW WITH THE KAISER. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, September 29, (Received Sept. 30, at 9.15 a.m.) Botha, speaking at Rotterdam, said, "We were driven to make peace by hunger and the sword. We have made peace, however, and we wish to abide by that peace, knowing that the Lord God disposes of all." The Berlin correspondent of The Times quotes newspapers to show that Germany was tiring of Boer appeals and their rustic cunning as embodied in the manifesto. BERLIN, September 30. (Received Oct. 1, at 0.30 a.m.) The newspapers, in announcing that the Kaiser will give an audience to the Boer generals as soldiers, urge that such a course cannot offend Great Britain, fnnsmuch as ho will bo giving an audience to British subjects. LONDON, September 30. (Received Oct. 1, at 1.11 a.m.) The report that the Kaiser will grant an audience is not confirmed, but one organ, often inspired, declares that the generals, having solemnly dissociated themselves from any political agitation or demonstration, the Kaiser will receive them if they are bearers of British Government credentials. De Wet declares that the rumours as to the generals' intentions are premature. The Times doubts whether the generals will be so imprudent as to seek an audience with the Kaiser. It is hardly credible that the Kaiser, who is a statesman of great experience and tact, contemplates a step which would arouse deep indignation throughout the British Empire. 4
