PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.
Ai the ordinary meeting of the above board oi Portobello on Saturday last the members present were Meesrs Dickson (chairman), Bacon, Hinkley, Macandrew, Milne, North, and Seaton. Mr T. Porterflold, inspector, wrote regretting his inability,to be-present owing to having met with a rather severe accident. Two ■tenders were received for excavating, metalling, and a. culvert on Bnrt-M'Tagyart's road—viz., D. Nyhon (£29 11s) and Grainger and Wright (£25). The lowest tender was accepted. F. S. Hinkley was granted permission and some assistance to erect an addition to outbuildings at toll-house, the board to supply timber. A number oE small repairs were referred to the inspector for early attention. Mr K. Ewing, Eoslyn, wrote promising to lop trees overhanging road at Wnverley. Messrs Durham and Foster's request for some gravelling near the Post Office, Portobello, was referred to the inspector >for onrly attention. Messrs A. and J. M'Farlane, Dunedin, wrote intimating that they had sold sections 10 to 41, Township of Hellensburgh. Mr A. J. Kidston Hunter wrote asking for some improvement to the road leading to his property (late Mr Davey's) at Vanshall.—The inspector to report. A circular and subscription list wns received from the secretary of the Fallen Soldiers' Memorial Fund.— As the school children wero making a house-to-house canvas 3 it was deemed unnecessary to take further action. Several letters were read from Mr E. G. Allen, M.H.E., referring to
balance of last year's Government grant for repairs to Beach road—Several members took the opportunity of speaking of Mr Allen's prompt attention to any matters affecting the board's interests.—Cr Hinkley proposed, .and Mr North seconded, and it was carried unanimously—" That the board appreciates Mr Allen's many services to the district, and tenders its heartiest'thanks to him. for his prompt attention .to their interests." Accounts were received from the Charitable Aid Board (£51.183 Gd) and Hospitqji Board (JE3S sa) as the levy for the curront year. Tho toll collector reported that the sum of £U 18s 6d had been collected for the last month. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £84 12s 10d.
